Beta version of the pipelined DLXS

This directory contains two files:

  dlx_p.tar.gz	The vhdl-files for the pipelined DLXS
  Doku.ps.gz	A documentation of the dlx_p. Unfortunatly only in German


REMARKS

  This is only a beta version of our pipelined DLXS. Since there was a high
  public interest in a VHDL-model of a pipelined DLX I decided to publish this
  beta version. As you can see below there are still some bugs in the model.
  Please don't blame me for them. We are still working on them. If you want a
  better model you must wait another three months or so.

HOW TO USE THIS MODEL

  Since this is only a beta version I haven't put much effort in making this
  as easy to use as possible, you only get the raw files. This will of course
  be improved in our final version.
  First you should get the files of our unpipelined version from the directory
  pub/vhdl/vlsi_course/vhdl_src. When you have uncompressed and untarred it
  you should replace the directory DLX/dlx by the files from dlx_p.tar.gz.
  If you need some documentation you should read thatone of the DLXS. Many 
  things described there still hold for the pipelined version.
  Even if you don't understand German it maybe usefull to print the documen-
  tation of the DLXS-P. There are many diagrams and pictures that may help
  you to understand the model. And most of the names are in English.
  If there is anybody who wants to translate the docu into any language please
  feel free to do so, but send me a copy. You can also get the original Frame-
  Maker document from me. Please send me an e-mail.

  Since I have more important things to do than translating documentations, WE
  WON'T PUBLISH ANY ENGLISH DOCUMENTATION FOR THE FINAL VERSION EITHER. 
  I'm really sorry.

KNOWN BUGS

  1. The shift instructions are not working.
  2. Don't use the structural ripple carry adder.
  3. The interrupt, trap and exception handling is not implemented yet. If you
     need that, please wait for our next version.

  If you find others, please inform me so we can correct them in our next ver-
  sion.
